Islamic State are conducting roadside ambushes, drive by shootings and planting roadside IED's. They operate in four to eight man squads with various weapon systems including LMG's and RPG's, their use of vehicles is limited but can include .50 cal mounted soft skin vehicles. We can expect they will have ambushes along the route to the objective and attempt to slow us down with roadside IED's. It is known for IS to use civilians as human shields and ambush lures. Expect them to operate covertly in the AO and use the element of surprise to overcome our forces. Abu Dija will be well defended as we believe in the town is a bomb making factory that IS is using to produce IED's for their forces in the area.
Iraqi 2nd Battalion is sending in a mechanized infantry unit to secure the town of Abu Dija from Islamic State. Currently we have two BMP's and mounted .50 cal vehicles. There is no further support for our callsign.
Civilians are caught in the crossfire, Islamic State is targeting civilians that are in the area and will kill on sight, most civilians have escaped the area but we must make attempt to free those who are in danger.
Bravo Company, 2nd Battalion is to secure the town of Abu Dija NLT 1200hrs IOT disrupt Islamic State forces in the area and deny their access to bomb making facilities in the town.
Three Phase operation:
Phase 1: Move from RV location to Abu Dija.
Phase 2: Secure the town from IS and locate the bomb factory believed to be somewhere in the centre of town.
Phase 3: Set up defensive positions in Abu Dija and prepare for any counter attacks from Islamic State.
Ammunition: Currently low. Attempt to refill ammunition from fallen Islamic State fighters.
Medical: Two medics are attached to the unit. All C/S carrying PAK's
